DigitalWell Ventures Joins Health Data Sweden as New Partner in Renewed European Mission

Health Data Sweden has received a renewed three-year mandate as a European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH), backed by SEK 50 million in co-funding from the EU and Sweden. As part of this new phase, DigitalWell Ventures joins the consortium as a new partner, bringing early-stage innovation support, public sector experience and a growing healthtech startup network to one of Sweden’s most important health data initiatives.

A Renewed European Mission

Health Data Sweden (HDS) is one of Sweden’s European Digital Innovation Hubs, focused on accelerating the use of health data for innovation and improved care. The renewed mandate, running from 2026 to 2028, secures continued EU and national funding and expands the consortium with new partners.

The hub supports healthcare organisations, SMEs and public sector actors in adopting digital tools and data-driven approaches. With the new phase, HDS aims to deepen its impact across Sweden and strengthen its ties to the broader European EDIH network.

Health Data Sweden plays a key role in building the infrastructure for data-driven health innovation in Sweden. The renewed mandate allows us to take the next step and bring in new expertise and perspectives, says Sebastiaan Meijer, project coordinator for Health Data Sweden and professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Startup Energy Meets National Infrastructure

DigitalWell Ventures joins Health Data Sweden as a new associated partner. The partnership connects HDS’s national health data infrastructure with DigitalWell Ventures’ early-stage innovation support, public sector experience and hands-on work helping startups move from prototype to investment readiness.

For healthtech startups, access to health data is often a critical enabler. By connecting emerging companies with the frameworks, networks and expertise within HDS, the partnership creates new opportunities for startups to develop, test and scale data-driven solutions in real healthcare settings.

Part of a Growing European Network

European Digital Innovation Hubs are part of the EU’s Digital Europe Programme, designed to help businesses and public sector organisations adopt digital technologies. Health Data Sweden is one of the Swedish EDIHs, operating alongside similar hubs across Europe.

The HDS consortium includes core partners KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institutet, Region Stockholm, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Uppsala University, and SciLifeLab, along with associated partners including DigitalWell Ventures, AI Sweden, Combient, Elekta, Health Integrator, Halmstad University, Lund University, Region Västerbotten, Region Örebro län, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Swedish Medtech, and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR).

What This Means for the DigitalWell Ecosystem

For the startups in DigitalWell Ventures’ accelerator and incubator programs, the HDS partnership opens doors to national-level health data resources, research institutions and public sector networks. It also positions DigitalWell Ventures closer to the European innovation infrastructure that many healthtech companies need to scale internationally.

As the healthtech ecosystem in Sweden continues to grow, partnerships like this one between a national EDIH and a regional startup accelerator help bridge the gap between innovation and implementation. For DigitalWell Ventures, joining Health Data Sweden is a natural next step in building the connections that help startups succeed.
